I wrote Ulysses so clean minds could panic in public.
Ezra, you say that like you didn’t spend years turning my drafts into a hostage situation.
James, the cathedral was already broken, you just wrote the graffiti in 600 pages.
Virginia, I made one difficult book and you all acted like I broke the cathedral.
You wrote it so I had to become your unpaid human punctuation system.
Ezra, you were basically the only man who could edit chaos and call it friendship.
Just saw a critic call Ulysses “self-indulgent.” Babe, the book is 700 pages because I needed room to be right in layers.
Both of you are exhausting, but at least Joyce turns a sentence into architecture.
Architcture? He builds cathedrals and forgets the doorway.
You needed room because you make one sentence do overtime, old sport.
And yet you’re all standing outside reading the plaque like it owes you rent.
Joyce wins by making everyone argue, and somehow the argument is the product.
